How does HP Instant Ink work?

Instant Ink is HP's ink delivery service: a new way to print that's affordable and easy.

Once you sign up to the Service, forget about going to the store again to buy cartridges! Your printer will tell us when you're about to run out of ink and we will send you automatically new cartridges before you need them.

We offer you different plans to choose from according to the number of pages per month you print, no matter if you print in colour or in black and white.

Your monthly fee includes ink usage, shipping and recycling.

And don't worry if your printing needs change, you can easily change your plan anytime or cancel the service without penalties.

Where is HP Instant Ink available?

HP Instant Ink is currently available in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Portugal, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. We’re planning on expanding, so keep checking back for updates on when HP Instant Ink will be available in other countries.

There are some regions or locations in the UK that are not eligible for the HP Instant Ink program, these include: The Channel Islands (Jersey and Guernsey), Alderney, Sark, Herm and Gibraltar

What do I need to sign up?

To sign up to the HP Instant Ink service you need:

• An HP printer that is compatible with this service.
• An Internet connection for your printer
• A valid email address.
• A valid payment method (for billing purposes): Credit card, direct debit, PayPal or HP Instant Ink Prepaid card*.

*Not all payment methods may be available in all countries.

Should I signup if I still have ink?

Don't worry if you still have ink in your current printer. Get ready now for when you run low on ink! When you sign up to the Service, we will send you a Welcome Package with your Instant Ink cartridges. Your billing will not start until your Instant Ink cartridges are inserted into your printer.

If you just bought a new printer that comes with Instant Ink cartridges already inside, you may be offered a Trial period if you sign up to the Service within the 7 days following the Printer Installation. Try the service and your monthly fee will only start after the Trial period.

In case you sign up after the 7 days, you won't be eligible for the Trial period and your service and billing won't start until you insert your Welcome Package Instant Ink cartridges into your printer.

What is included in my monthly fee?

Your monthly fee includes the HP Instant Ink cartridges usage, shipping and recycling.

Will I get cartridges every month?

No, your HP printer anticipates when you're running out of ink and orders more when you need it, but not on a established frequency. Your HP Instant Ink cartridges are bigger than the usual ones, so they have to be replaced less frequently, also helping to reduce the negative impact on the environment. We encourage you to return your used cartridges using the prepaid envelopes included in your box. As you can fit several cartridges in the recycling envelope, not all replenishment packages will include one. All cartridges received will be recycled by HP Planet Partners.

What if my printing needs change from month to month?

Your unused pages are rolled over for you, up to two times your monthly plan amount. You can print more than your monthly page amount and still save. Additional sets of pages are automatically available and let you print beyond your monthly limit for pennies per page. You can also easily change your monthly plan whenever you want. You can choose to make a plan upgrade effective immediately and retroactively apply to the current billing cycle, or have the upgrade take effect the first day of the next billing cycle. What if I don’t know how many pages I print?

Don't worry, once you sign up to HP Instant Ink, if you realize that there's a better plan that suits your needs, you can change your plan anytime.

You can track how many pages you print in your Dashboard and upgrade or downgrade to any plan.

What happens if my printing needs change from month to month?

HP Instant Ink is flexible and allows for additional pages and accumulated unused pages.

Do you print less in a month?

If you do not use all your plan pages in a month, the unused pages will be kept in your account and automatically rolled over to the next month. You can roll over up to three times the number of pages in your monthly plan.

And what if I need to print more pages than my monthly plan?

Once you have printed all the pages in your plan, and you have used all your rollover pages, additional set of pages will be automatically charged on your account for only £ 1.

Bear in mind that you can easily change your monthly plan if your printing needs change from month to month.

What happens if I don't use all my pages?

If you do not use all your plan pages in a month, the unused pages will be kept in your account and automatically rolled over to the next month. You can roll over up to three times the number of pages in your monthly plan, for as long as you are enrolled in HP Instant Ink.

For example, you can roll over up to 150 pages if you are enrolled in a 50 page plan.

How do additional pages work?

Once you have printed all the pages in your plan, and you have used all your rollover pages, additional set of pages will be automatically charged on your account. As long as your printer is connected to the Internet, we will send you an email when you are about to reach your monthly page limit. You can always upgrade your plan rather than purchasing additional pages.

Is my plan change or cancellation effective immediately?

You can choose to make a change to a higher plan effective immediately and retroactively apply to the current billing cycle, or have the upgrade take effect the first day of the next billing cycle.

Changes to a lower plan and cancellation are effective the first day of the next billing cycle. For more details, see the HP Instant Ink Terms of Service.

Can I still use my Instant Ink Cartridges if I cancel the service?

From the moment you insert the first Instant Ink cartridges received with your Welcome Package, all following cartridges received will be Instant Ink Cartridges.
In case you cancel the Service, even if the Instant Ink Cartridges provided with your subscription are not empty, they will stop working in your printer and you will have to replace all of them with standard cartridges.

What is an HP Instant Ink Prepaid Card?

You might have bought a prepaid card in the Store, if that is the case, you will be offered to redeem it during your sign up or in your Dashboard.
The prepaid value will be added into your account and any monthly charges will be deducted from this prepaid balance.

Is the cost the same if I print colour and black and white pages?

Yes, you can print colour photos or documents, or high-quality black and white pages. Each page now costs the same!
Your monthly fee is based on the number of pages you print, not on the amount of ink you use. So, go ahead! Use your colour ink cartridges as much as you want.

How can I recycle my used cartridges?

We encourage you to return your used cartridges using the prepaid envelopes included in your box. As you can fit several cartridges in the recycling envelope, not all replenishment packages will include one.
